Hi friend! I relate! What you’re describing could be linked to hormone changes so it might be worth discussing with your team. A lot of my girlfriends and I noticed that what used to work for us in terms of exercise no longer did when peri hit. I used to be a ‘casual cardio gal’ in my 30s, but I had to change things up in my 40s. A regular mix of cardio and strength training works well for me now. I saw that you’re already exercising (way to go!) Not sure if you’re incorporating resistance training yet? If you like walking, you could try adding ankle weights as a start. It can be an easy and effective way to strengthen your bones and lower the risk of osteoporosis. It's one of those little tricks that really works! I always put mine on before I walk my dog. It gives an extra boost to my daily strolls :)

Popping into second Samantha's ankle weights suggestion. They check the box for two magic words - easy and effective!

I've been following a few discussion forums on Reddit about menopause and the strange effects it has on our bodies, these resources are super informative and I strongly encourage you to read the comments on these threads. Regarding the muscle loss, it might be worth looking into DHEA and testosterone testing to see where your levels are at, sometimes if those levels are too low we will find ourselves losing strength and muscle no matter what we do. Hormones are such a strange and mysterious thing, but there are ways to combat this such as with compounded creams that contain DHEA and/or testosterone.

I feel you ladies! I was always a very sporty person and integrated cardio and going to the gym regularly all my life. I suddenly found myself not being able to maintain my balance pick up heavy things and have that ‘explosive’ strength while doing my favourite sports. I thought, is this ageing or is this menopause.? I had blood work done and had very low testosterone. I tried that with DHEA. It worked very well, but I had huge side effects. I lost a ton of hair on my head and got a ton on my face. So I quit. I’ve changed my exercise routine, trying to integrate more resistance training. On those days, I take 10 g of creatine post workout. That seems to help maintain whatever muscle gain I could have gotten by exercising.
As for the creppy skin, I was told it is usually related to low oestrogen and can be corrected with collagen supplements and good hydration. I cannot take estrogens but tried the collagen. I cannot say it really worked for me, but I have some friends that swear by it!
Resistance training, creatine, collagen. I’d give those a try.
